New Zealand has announced Mitchell Santner as the interim captain for the upcoming two T20Is and three ODIs against Sri Lanka, starting November 9. This will be New Zealand's first limited-overs series since Kane Williamson stepped down as captain, following the team’s unexpected exit from the T20 World Cup in June. Santner will guide a 15-man squad, which includes two new faces—Nathan Smith and wicketkeeper-batter Mitch Hay.
Smith, who won New Zealand Cricket's Domestic Player of the Year award, is set to bolster the squad with his all-round abilities. Hay, Canterbury's Player of the Year, will add depth to the batting and keeping departments. The squad also features seasoned players such as Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy, and Ish Sodhi, alongside spin-bowling all-rounders like Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell.
The eight players currently involved in New Zealand’s Test series against India, including Tom Blundell, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, and Kane Williamson, were rested to prepare for the Test series against England.
